ERGOHOUSE

Developed as a part of Washington University in St. Louis architecture program ARCH 311 course, this project focused on the development of 3D spatial design principals. This project is an exploration of intersection between multiple shapes and combination of forms. This project started from two cement casts, with the casts individually exploring the combination and relationship between triangular surfaces and curves. Using the cement casts, the project explored the intersection and joining of the conflicting shapes in different orientations. The final general from was a combination two intersecting casts, with the forms oriented to keep flat surfaces on the exterior and curves on the interior. Of this development only the general exterior form was kept, which eventually developed into the enclosure of the project. Whilst the original form was informative in guiding the direction of the design, the structure was overly sculptural and limiting in its ability to hold function. As this experiment focuses heavily on the relationships created by the form, the program of the project was created as a response of the volumes created. Despite the seemingly impractical and unergonomic nature of the angled volumes, the functions of the project attempts to use these interactions to justify its’ design.
