WORLD MACHINE PRACTICE

A couple of environments made as a World Machine practice. Both were developed from scratch without guidance using the software.

PRACTICE FOCUS

Since the project is a practice for a software, some boundaries were chosen for the project. Given the goal of the project is to develop understanding of the software, somewhat complex and detailed environments were chosen. The first environment was a more generic mountain and grass plain setting whilst the second was an island setting with more focus towards creating satisfactory water bounds. The mix of detailed mountains, plans, rivers, and beaches was considered to be comprehensive enough for a practice. Terrain textures and displacement maps were created in World Machine and were exported to Blender for a final rendering.

The mountainous plains terrain was created as a more general project, with focuses on adding rivers, mountains, and textures.

The basic mountains and hills were created with an advanced Perlin noise generator, further details were created using various erosion nodes and river nodes.

MOUNTAINOUS ISLAND

The mountainous island environment is more detailed than the previous one and is focused more as a practice of creating environments that have a previous shape in mind. The island shape was created using a radial gradient for the center mountain which was then used as a input for an advanced Perlin noise. The details were created in a similar fashion to the previous environment.

SNOWY MOUNTAINS

Similar to the previous environment, the snowy mountains was created with a specific environment in mind, a snowy canyon that holds a dried out riverbed. The environment was made using a manually drawn path for the valley and rivers which was then finished with various nature nodes.
